Three innovative approaches to the top three disability conditions that we meet every day (pain, anxiety, depression). Our presenters will show how these three disabilities often work together to produce perverse synergy, and thus how treatment solutions that diverge from the norm are needed for success.

Dr. Elizabeth Bannerman is a registered psychologist who specializes in the area of rehabilitation psychology and behavioral medicine.

Dr. Owen J. Garrett, Ph. D.

Dr. Garrett obtained his M.A. and Ph.D. in Adult Clinical Psychology from the University of Western Ontario. His primary areas of interest and clinical practice have been in the fields of Health Psychology and Rehabilitation

The Assessment of People Experiencing Pain: How does a Biopsychosocial Perspective guide Intervention and Management of Pain Interfering with Function?

In this session, implications for assessment, intervention and education in pain experience are outlined and discussed. Integration of psychological and social factors to biological issues that affect pain, distress and related disability for treatment direction is a main focus, with presentation of case studies for consideration and discussion.
